Publisher: | Afet ve Acil Durum Yonetimi Baskanligi | Abstract: | Türkiye is located in a region with high seismicity fault lines. Throughout history, earthquakes in the Anatolian peninsula have caused great loss of life and property. In this context, it is of great importance to intensify earthquake risk assessment studies and take necessary precautions in the Marmara Region where population and industrialization is very dense. In this study, 19940 buildings in Izmit district of Kocaeli province were classified by employing the simplified methods prescribed under the title of principles for the determination of risky buildings to determine the regional earthquake risk distribution of buildings defined within the scope of "Law No. 6306 on the Transformation of Areas Under Disaster Risk". This method enables regional earthquake risk prioritization by considering the principles of rapid street scanning. The results obtained from the field investigations were evaluated together with parameters such as population density and distribution, emergency assembly area distribution, total building area, and it was aimed to determine earthquake risk priority areas in Izmit district. © 2024 Afet ve Acil Durum Yonetimi Baskanligi (AFAD).
