A novel two degrees-of-freedom structural mechanism proposal for multi-functional transformable bridge

At first moveable bridges are built with the need of protection. Also they are developed to ease transportation in modern times. They are in favor compared to stable bridges due to their adaptive capabilities for various situations. In this article existing moveable bridges are introduced in terms of their kinematic properties and their abilities to respond different transportation needs are examined. Later on, making use of the structural mechanism design principles of a contemporary example, the Rolling Bridge, a novel two degrees-offreedom multi-loop structural mechanism that can support all types of usage scenarios is proposed for a transformable bridge. Lastly a position analysis of the mechanism is done and a graphic is presented in Microsoft Excel (R).
